Meet Sharon Assis
Dedicated Music Educator, Homeschool Advocate, and Founder of Estrella Music Program
Hi there! Thank you for visiting and for your interest in the Estrella Music Program. I'm thrilled to share my love of music with homeschooling families.
I'm a certified K-12 music teacher with more than 25 years of teaching experience and a former homeschool parent who spent over 15 years deeply involved in the homeschooling community. This unique combination of professional expertise and lived homeschool experience allows me to truly understand both the musical goals and practical needs of homeschooling families.
My Musical Journey
Music has been a central part of my life from a very young age. I began playing violin at age three and piano at age six. Throughout my childhood, I performed with local youth orchestras and was selected to attend one of the nation's premier performing arts schools—Palm Beach School of the Arts, including Bak Middle School and Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
During my time there, I served as one of the principal first violinists. At sixteen, I was accepted into the dual-enrollment program at New World School of the Arts in Miami, further advancing my musical training and performance experience.
I later earned a Bachelor of Music (BM) from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
Alongside music, I have always been passionate about science and lifelong learning. My educational journey also includes studies through Columbia University's pre-medical post-baccalaureate program and coursework at Florida Atlantic University.
Building Estrella Music Program
Since opening my teaching studio in 2000, I have been committed to providing meaningful, high-quality music education that helps students grow both musically and personally.
Estrella Music Program was created to bring together the best parts of my background—professional music training, classroom teaching experience, and homeschool insight—into a program designed specifically for homeschool families.
Beyond the studio, I have actively pursued innovation in education and technology. I was accepted into Florida Atlantic University's Tech Runway program for technology startups, where I served as Principal Investigator. With support from the University of Central Florida, I also authored federal grant proposals for both the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation.
These experiences reflect my commitment to integrating music, science, and technology to create engaging and enriching learning opportunities for students.
